Fort Towson Ramblings 12/1

Do you know come May 2018, I have been doing this column for 20 years.  I can’t even remember the many things that I have written about.
Some of them made people really mad. They wanted my Pastor to talk to me. You know what I told him. This is freedom of the Press and nobody
can tell me what I can or cannot say. There have been some nasty phone calls, which I refused to listen to. I really appreciate all of the people who
enjoy my comments.
Christmas is barely four weeks away. Black Friday wasn’t so much around here. One reason is that it starts on Thanksgiving Day not Friday.
The second reason is that many people are ordering on line.
Retired Educators will meet Monday Dec. 4, at 11 am at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist of Hugo. It will be potluck. Bring your favorite dish and
enjoy the fun and games. I am making my crockpot dressing which is the only way to make it. Renee Johnson of the State of Oklahoma Ombudsman
program is to answer question on Aging and the programs to help the elderly.
Also the Nutrition Site will have its Thanksgiving/Christmas lunch on Tuesday Dec. 5.  I will be basically potluck. Your dish is your cost of the meal . They
will provide the meat and drinks; the rest of us will provide the vegetables and desserts. Come and enjoy a good meal with your friends.
Mary Fossum reminds you of the Lake Raymond Gary Boat Parade on the first and second of December. Anyone with a boat and wants to participate can.
Call Mary for details. If you have children you know they would enjoy riding in a boat parade. On land under the Christmas lights, Santa will be passing
out candy canes and letting the kids take pictures with him. I think maybe all of this is free. There is hot chocolate, too.  But they would appreciate any
donations to help pay for the lights.
I stopped at the Election Office. John and Carolyn are busy gearing up for a busy election year in 2018. I think it starts with school elections, then moves
on to primaries, run-offs and the general election in November. This is the year to elect a new governor and county commissioner. If you aren’t registered,
now is the time to do so. You can go to the Court House or the tag office for forms. You can fill it out and give it to John or Carolyn. Have you checked your
driver’s license for the expiration date?
I pre-order my birdseed each year. It arrived and I got it home all thousand pounds of it. They give you a new bird feeder when you order a bunch.
I noticed the redbirds are back from wherever they had gone. Of course, the Blue jays are always here. They are so colorful !
